first day of school for my littlest kiddo

First day of school for my Turtle! He was so beyond excited to start kindergarten.  He came home super happy as well.

in which it was the last week of school

The kids only had two days of school this week.  They each had a field trip doing something fun.  Sunshine went swimming.
I snuck into Sunshine's classroom to snap a picture of her (and if you look closely, you can see Turtle snuck all the way in there to visit before the bell rang).
Buddy went bowling.  I snapped this picture right before the ball hit the pins for a spare.
Buddy received the all A Honor Roll for the third trimester in a row.

in which it was crazy hair day at school

Sunshine wanted her hair done for crazy hair day.  I had seen this done by a friend for her kids awhile back and thought Sunshine might have enough hair to pull it off.  She did and she was so excited!  I'm sure her hair was the most unique.

in which he gets all A's

Dad and I received a letter from the principal early last week.  I opened the letter with hesitation, thinking Buddy was in trouble at school.  Nope.  Buddy earned the honor of being "Student of the Month" and was the only kid in his class to get straight A's.  He is doing so well in school and his teacher said so many nice things about him and how he goes above and beyond to learn.  We are proud of him.  (there was no assembly of awards for the lower grades, but Sunshine got good grades as well)

in which he receives an award

We got an invitation to go to an award assembly at the kids' school for the 4th and 5th grade.  I wasn't planning on going, but Buddy asked if I would.  I grabbed the camera, not knowing why.  I got to the school and waited as the kids came in and sat on the gym floor.  Buddy's teacher got up and announced that there was only one kid in her class that got straight A's this term.  Then she called Buddy's name.  I was shocked!  Especially since a few weeks before, he had missing assignments.  He is very smart though and it was nice to see him get that award for his efforts.

in which we talked with teachers

Parent/Teacher Conferences.  Those words can be really bad or really good.  Well, we have super smart kids, so for us they are pretty good.  They are both really good students.  Sunshine has surprised her teacher by being so helpful to others in her class.  She doesn't let herself get bored at school.  That is amazing and most teachers would dream of students like that.  Mrs. F is so lucky to have her!

And then there is Buddy.  He is so smart and does so well, when he puts forth an effort.  He tends to rush through things and doesn't always read the instructions (that is so like me!), but more than anything he would rather read a book (which is also like me).  Mrs. J likes having him around although sometimes she thinks that her brother is in her class instead of my son (apparently Buddy and her brother have similar qualities in behavior).
No worries, yet again.  I love that my kids do so well in school!  They must get it from their Dad (okay, from me too).

in which Buddy went on an overnight field trip

Buddy was super lucky to go on an overnight field trip this year.  I would have posted pictures much earlier, however I couldn't find the camera cord for the old camera.  As it turns out, our new camera and the old camera use the same cards, so I just inserted the card in the new camera and downloaded the pictures, finally.

All these pictures were taken by Buddy, minus the two he is in.  If you remember (from here), he has really been trying to take better pictures.  I think he is improving in some aspects.  Buddy had a very fun time being away from us, visiting waterfalls, walking through lava tubes, sleeping in a school gym, going to a museum, you know the normal stuff.  We were happy to have him home safe though.
